The independent heating and cooling company across the Willamette Valley and northwest Oregon

Central AC Installation

We install central air conditioning systems in homes across Oregon and Washington, replacing a failed or aging AC and adding cooling to houses that have ductwork but never had it. Most homeowners land here after a compressor gives out, after a second or third air conditioning repair in one summer, or when adding cooling to a house that only had heat. Call us and we will come measure the house, look at your ducts and electrical, and give you real options before anything gets ordered.

What a central AC installation actually involves

A central system has two halves. Outside sits the condenser on a pad, and inside sits the evaporator coil in the air handler or above the furnace, tied together by refrigerant lines. We pull the old equipment, set the new condenser on level ground with clearance for airflow, fit the matched indoor coil, run or reuse line sets, wire the disconnect, and pull a deep vacuum before charging. Then we set the thermostat, measure airflow and temperature split, and confirm the drain pan and condensate line move water where it should go.

What we check and install

Before we quote anything we do a load calculation instead of copying the old nameplate. We look at duct sizing, return air, insulation, window area and how the house is laid out, because an oversized system short cycles and leaves rooms humid. We check the electrical panel for capacity and the breaker size the new unit needs. We inspect duct joints and the filter cabinet, since a wide filter slot opens the door to better filtration, which matters here during smoke season. We also look at drainage and the pad location before setting equipment.

How we decide installation is the right call

Repair first is usually the honest answer. A capacitor, contactor or blower motor is worth fixing on a system with years left. We lean toward replacement when the compressor has failed, when a coil is leaking refrigerant that is expensive or no longer made, or when you have paid for air conditioner repair three summers running. Age matters too, and so does whether the ducts can support what you want. If you are already replacing the outdoor unit, we will talk through whether a heat pump makes more sense for your heating as well.

Central AC Installation — quick answers

Can I keep my existing ductwork?

Often yes. We test duct sizing and return air first. Undersized returns or leaky joints will limit any new system, so we either seal and modify what is there or tell you what needs changing.

How long does a central AC installation take?

A straightforward swap of condenser and coil is usually one day. Adding cooling where none existed, moving a condenser location, or electrical panel work can push it into a second day.

Should I install a heat pump instead of central AC?

Worth a conversation. A heat pump cools the same way and also heats, which suits our mild wet winters. We compare both against your existing heating and ductwork before you decide.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
