Air Duct Cleaning

We clean residential air ducts across Oregon and Washington, pulling built-up dust, construction debris and pet dander out of supply and return runs so your HVAC system moves clean air again. Homeowners usually call after a remodel, after smoke season, when registers blow visible dust, or when a new heat pump is going into an older duct system. Call us and describe what you are seeing at the vents. We will ask a few questions and tell you honestly whether cleaning is the right fix or whether something else is going on.

What the job involves

We start at the air handler or furnace cabinet and work outward. Registers and grilles come off, and we run a rotating brush and high-suction vacuum through each branch so debris moves toward the collection unit instead of into your living room. Return ducts usually hold the most, since that is where household dust travels. We seal openings as we go, protect flooring around each register, and finish with a fresh filter. Most single-system homes take a good part of a day, depending on run count and access.

What we check while we are in there

Open ducts tell us a lot. We look for disconnected boots under floors, crushed flex in crawlspaces, and insulation that has slumped away from metal. We check whether the return is undersized, which shows up as dust drawn in around the filter frame rather than through it. Moisture staining inside a duct matters more than dust does, because that points to a sealing or condensation problem we should address first. Anything we find, we photograph and show you before we recommend work.

How we decide cleaning is the right call

Cleaning helps when there is real material in the ducts. Post-renovation drywall dust, rodent activity, or years of wildfire smoke pulled through a weak filter all qualify. It does not fix allergy symptoms caused by a leaky crawlspace, and it will not solve a room that never gets warm, since that is usually airflow or balance. If we inspect and the ducts are reasonably clean, we say so and point you toward filtration or duct sealing instead.

Air Duct Cleaning — quick answers

How often do air ducts actually need cleaning?

There is no fixed schedule. Most homes go many years between cleanings. Trigger events matter more than the calendar: remodeling, pest activity, water intrusion, or a long smoke season with an underperforming filter.

Will duct cleaning help with wildfire smoke smell?

It can, if smoke particulate settled in the duct runs. Often the bigger win is better filtration and sealing gaps where outside air sneaks in. We look at both and tell you which matters more in your home.

Do you clean ducts on heat pump systems?

Yes. Heat pump homes have the same supply and return ductwork as furnace homes, and often more running hours. We clean them the same way and check the air handler cabinet and coil access while we are there.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
