Duct Replacement

We replace failed, crushed, disconnected or badly leaking duct runs in homes across Oregon and Washington, from a single collapsed flex line in a crawlspace to a full trunk-and-branch rebuild. Homeowners usually reach this point after rooms that never get comfortable, dust that keeps coming back, or a heat pump that runs long and still falls short. If patching has stopped working, call us and we will inspect the system, measure airflow, and lay out what needs replacing and what can stay.

What a duct replacement actually involves

We start under the house or in the attic with a look at the whole distribution system, not just the run you suspect. Old flex gets pulled out, damaged boots and takeoffs come off, and we rebuild with properly sized duct, sealed joints and supports that keep runs off the dirt and free of long sags. Return paths get the same attention as supply, because a system that cannot breathe in will never deliver air properly. We clean up and haul the old material out with us.

What we check and install

Before anything comes out we check static pressure, temperature split, register airflow and the condition of insulation and vapor barriers. Wet crawlspaces in this region are hard on duct wrap, so we look for sagging, mold staining and rodent damage. On install we match duct sizing to the equipment and the room loads, seal with mastic rather than tape alone, insulate to the exposed conditions, and re-balance dampers. Then we retest airflow at the registers so you can see the difference in numbers.

How we decide replacement is the right call

Repair comes first. If a boot is loose or a single joint has separated, we fix that and move on. Replacement makes sense when the duct is undersized for the equipment, when the inner liner is torn along multiple runs, when insulation is soaked or missing, or when patching has already been done twice and the rooms are still uneven. We will tell you plainly which sections are sound. Nobody needs a whole new system of ductwork because one run failed.

Duct Replacement — quick answers

Can you replace ductwork in sections instead of all at once?

Usually yes. We often replace the worst runs and the trunk while keeping sound branches. We will show you what we found and which sections we would leave alone for now.

Will new ducts help with smoke season filtration?

They help, because sealed duct stops pulling crawlspace and attic air into the system. Filtration itself depends on the filter and cabinet, so we usually look at both together.

How long does a duct replacement take?

A few problem runs can be a one-day job. A full rebuild in a tight crawlspace often runs two to three days. We give you a timeline after the inspection, not before.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
