UV Lights & Ventilation

We install and service UV lights and mechanical ventilation as part of indoor air quality work on homes across Oregon and Washington. UV lamps sit inside the ductwork or air handler and target microbial growth on the coil and drain pan. Ventilation equipment brings measured fresh air in and pushes stale air out, which matters in tight houses and during smoke season. If your home smells musty, feels stuffy, or windows sweat all winter, call us and we will look at the whole air path before recommending anything.

What the job involves

A UV install starts at the air handler or furnace cabinet, because that is where the damp coil lives. We find a mounting spot with a clear line of sight to the coil surface, cut and seal the opening, run power, and confirm the lamp cannot shine anywhere it should not. Ventilation work is different. That means locating a supply and exhaust path, sizing the fan for the house, running duct to the outside, and setting controls so it runs on a schedule rather than whenever a switch gets bumped.

What we check or install

Before anything gets mounted we look at filtration, duct leakage, static pressure, and how the return is drawing air. A UV lamp will not fix a filter that is bypassing air around its frame, and a fresh air fan pulling through leaky duct in a crawlspace does not help much. From there we install coil-facing UV lamps, in-duct systems, bath and range exhaust that actually vents outdoors, and balanced ventilators with heat recovery for homes that stay shut tight through wet winters.

How we decide it is the right call

We recommend UV when there is visible growth on a coil or in a drain pan, or a recurring musty smell that returns after cleaning. We recommend ventilation when a house holds humidity, when carbon dioxide builds up in bedrooms, or when a homeowner wants control over outdoor air during wildfire smoke. If the real problem is a dirty filter, a blocked return, or a duct that came apart, we say so. Some homes need better filtration first and nothing else after that.

UV Lights & Ventilation — quick answers

Do UV lights clean the air in my rooms?

Not really. Coil-mounted UV lamps treat surfaces inside the equipment where moisture collects. Air passing by moves too fast for much effect. For airborne particles, including smoke, filtration is the tool that does the work.

How often do UV lamps need replacing?

Most lamps lose output well before they stop glowing, so they get swapped on a schedule rather than when they fail. Roughly annually for many models. We check output and confirm the interval for what is installed in your system.

Will a ventilation system make my house harder to heat?

A balanced ventilator with heat recovery transfers warmth from outgoing air to incoming air, which limits the load. Sizing matters. We match the fan to your home and set run times so you get fresh air without fighting the heating system.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
