The independent heating and cooling company across the Willamette Valley and northwest Oregon

Whole-Home Dehumidifiers

We install and service whole-home dehumidifiers for homeowners across Oregon and Washington, ducted units that pull moisture out of the air your HVAC system is already moving. Homeowners call us when windows fog, closets smell musty, crawlspace air creeps upstairs, or the AC runs and the house still feels clammy. If that sounds like your house, call us and describe what you are seeing and where. We will walk through your ductwork, your humidity readings, and whether a whole-home unit or a targeted fix makes more sense.

What the install actually involves

A whole-home dehumidifier ties into your duct system, usually as a bypass off the return or as a dedicated feed with its own supply run. We size it to the square footage and the moisture load, not to the box. Then we handle the condensate drain, either to a nearby drain line or with a small pump, and wire the control so it talks to your thermostat or runs on its own humidistat. Most installs take a day. We test airflow before and after so we know the system still breathes right.

What we check first

Before we quote equipment, we measure. We log relative humidity in a few rooms, look at the crawlspace or basement, check for a vapor barrier, and read static pressure to see whether your ducts can carry another component. We also look at the AC coil, because a system that short-cycles never runs long enough to dry the air. Sometimes the answer is a drainage fix, a bath fan that actually vents outside, or a sealed crawlspace. We would rather tell you that than sell you a machine.

How we decide it is the right call

A whole-home dehumidifier makes sense when humidity stays high across the house through more than one season, when the cooling equipment is sized correctly and still cannot keep up, and when the moisture source is diffuse rather than one leaking pipe. Wet winters in this region mean plenty of houses run damp in months when the AC never comes on, and that is exactly the gap a standalone unit fills. If the problem is one room or one month, we will say so and fix the smaller thing.

Whole-Home Dehumidifiers — quick answers

Will a whole-home dehumidifier replace my air conditioner?

No. Cooling and dehumidification overlap but are not the same job. The dehumidifier removes moisture without overcooling the house, which is useful in shoulder seasons and on damp days when the AC barely runs.

Where does the water go?

Into a condensate drain we run to an existing drain line, or to a condensate pump if gravity does not cooperate. We check the drain path on every service visit, since a clogged line is the most common failure we find.

Can it help with smoke season air?

Indirectly. A dehumidifier handles moisture, not particulate. For smoke we pair it with proper filtration sized to your ductwork. Ask us about both together and we will look at the whole air path at once.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
