What Electric Furnace Repair Involves
An electric furnace makes heat by pushing air across resistance heating elements, so a repair usually comes down to finding which element, control or safety device stopped doing its part. We measure amp draw on each heat strip, test the sequencers that stage them on, and check the limit switches that shut things down when airflow drops. Airflow matters more than people expect here. A clogged filter or a tired blower motor can make a healthy furnace look broken, and we sort that out before replacing parts.
What We Check And Replace
We start at the thermostat and work back through the low voltage control circuit, the transformer, the contactor or sequencers, and the heating elements themselves. Common replacements are burnt heat strips, failed sequencers, open limit switches, blower motors and capacitors, and wiring or lugs that have overheated at the connection. Why does my electric furnace blow cool air?
Usually one or more heat strips are not energizing, often from a failed sequencer, an open limit switch or a tripped high limit. The blower still runs, so air moves without heat. We test each stage to find the break.
Why does the breaker trip when the heat runs?
Electric heat draws heavy current, so a shorted element, a damaged wire or a loose lug can trip the breaker under load. Do not keep resetting it. Leave it off and call us to test the circuit.
Is an electric furnace repair worth it, or should I replace?
If the cabinet, blower and wiring are sound, replacing an element or sequencer is often sensible. When several parts fail together on an aging unit, we price the repair against a heat pump upgrade so you can compare.
