The independent heating and cooling company across the Willamette Valley and northwest Oregon

Whole-Home Humidifiers

We install and service whole-home humidifiers on furnaces and heat pump air handlers for homeowners across Oregon and Washington. This is the fix when winter air in your house runs dry enough to crack wood floors, split trim, dry out sinuses, and build static shocks, even though our outdoor winters are wet. A whole-home unit ties into your existing ductwork and adds moisture to every room instead of one. Call us and describe what you are noticing, and we will look at your duct layout and current equipment before recommending anything.

What the installation actually involves

A whole-home humidifier mounts on the supply or return plenum of your furnace or air handler, with a water supply line, a drain for bypass and flow-through styles, and a humidistat that tells it when to run. We cut and seal the plenum opening, run the water line, wire the control into the system, and set the target humidity for the season. Most installs take part of a day. Service visits are shorter and usually mean a new water panel, a cleaning, or a stuck solenoid valve.

What we check and install

We start with static pressure and airflow, because a humidifier on a duct system that is already starved will not perform. We look at the plenum space available, water access, drain options, and whether your blower runs long enough in winter to distribute moisture. Then we size the unit to your square footage and how leaky the house is. On heat pumps, which most homes in our region run, we pay attention to lower supply temperatures and choose a style that works with them rather than against them.

How we decide it is the right call

Sometimes it is not. If your house is holding thirty percent relative humidity and the wood is moving, added moisture helps. If we find window condensation, damp crawlspace air pushing upward, or a bathroom fan that vents into the attic, adding water makes things worse and we say so. We measure humidity in more than one room, check the crawlspace, and look at ventilation first. A humidifier is worth installing when the house is genuinely dry and the ducts can carry the moisture where you live.

Whole-Home Humidifiers — quick answers

Will a whole-home humidifier cause mold?

Not if it is set correctly. Problems start when humidity is pushed too high for the outdoor temperature and moisture condenses on windows and inside wall cavities. We set a sensible target and show you how to adjust it as weather changes.

Does it work with a heat pump?

Yes. Heat pumps deliver cooler supply air than a furnace, so we choose a humidifier style suited to that and confirm blower runtime is long enough to move the moisture through the ducts to your living space.

How often does it need service?

Once a year is typical. The water panel or pad collects mineral scale from our water and stops absorbing, so we replace it, flush the drain, check the solenoid and float, and verify the humidistat is reading accurately.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
