Questions Oregon homeowners ask

Do you work on heat pumps as well as furnaces?

Yes. Heat pumps are the most common system we see in Oregon homes, and we handle heating repair and air conditioning repair on the same equipment since it does both jobs. We also service gas furnaces, electric furnaces, ductless mini splits and the air handlers paired with them. If you're not sure what you have, describe the outdoor unit and whether it runs in winter and we can usually sort it out over the phone.

My heat pump is steaming and blowing cold air in winter. Is it broken?

Usually not. That's a defrost cycle, and in our wet winters it happens often because frost builds on the outdoor coil overnight. The unit reverses briefly, melts the ice, then goes back to heating, and the steam you see is normal. Call us if the coil stays iced over for hours, if the outdoor fan never restarts, or if the house keeps losing temperature. Those point to a stuck reversing valve, a bad defrost board or a sensor problem.

What can I safely check before I call for AC repair?

Five things, and none of them involve opening the equipment. Check that the thermostat is set to cool with a lower setpoint than the room temperature, and swap the batteries if the screen is dim or blank. Look for a tripped breaker at the panel. Change the filter if it's grey and packed. Clear leaves, blackberry canes and grass clippings back a couple of feet from the outdoor unit. Confirm supply vents and returns aren't blocked by furniture. Anything involving gas, refrigerant or high voltage is ours to handle.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the house immediately, take everyone and any pets with you, and don't touch light switches, the thermostat or your phone until you're outside and away. Call 911 or your gas utility from a safe distance and let them clear the property. The same applies if a carbon monoxide alarm sounds. Once the utility says it's safe to go back in, call us and we'll inspect the furnace, heat exchanger and venting before you run it again.

How far do you travel, and how soon can you get here?

We cover homeowners across Oregon and Washington, and each city page lists what we handle in that area. Scheduling depends on the season. A no-heat call during a cold snap or a no-cool call during a smoke and heat stretch fills the book fast, so call early in the day if you can. We'll give you a real window rather than a vague promise, and we'll tell you straight if we can't reach you the same day.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form. Describe the noise, the smell, the temperature, and when it started. That detail helps us bring the right parts and gives you an honest idea of the visit ahead.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant behaviour and the outdoor unit. We tell you what failed and why, in plain language, before anyone reaches for a part or a price.

  3. Step 3

    You choose the repair

We lay out the fix, any parts on order, and what happens if you wait. Once you agree, we do the work and confirm the system holds temperature before we pack up and leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Heat pumps are our normalIn this region heat pumps outnumber furnaces, so defrost boards, reversing valves and short cycling in wet weather are everyday work for us. We know how these systems behave in a cold December rain, not just on a test bench.
  • Wet winter defrost problemsIce on the outdoor coil, a unit that runs and runs without warming the house, puddles that refreeze under the pad. We trace whether it is a sensor, a stuck valve, drainage, or airflow, then fix the actual cause.
  • Filtration after smoke seasonWildfire smoke turned indoor air quality into a real conversation here. We look at filter fit, return sizing and IAQ options that your blower can actually push air through, rather than choking the system with the wrong media.
  • We explain before we chargeYou get the diagnosis, the options and the trade-offs before work starts. If a repair is not worth it on an old system, we say so. No pressure, no jargon dumped on you at the door.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
